The Dye Palette: All 22

All colour at Sūt comes from natural dye. We work with 22 dyes in our current palette — Indigo, Madder Root, Pomegranate, Marigold, Henna, Turmeric, Lac, Myrobalan, Iron Black, Walnut, Sappanwood, Manjistha, Arjun Bark, Symplocos, Kamala, Bark of Acacia, Tesu, Jackfruit Wood, Babul Pod, Kutch, Weld, and Woad.

Natural dyes are not a constraint. They are a vocabulary. Each dye source produces a range of shades depending on the mordant used, the water, the season, the hands of the dyer. No two lots are precisely identical. We find this appropriate for garments that are themselves entirely singular.
