Kantha Embroidery Shirt

The Kantha Embroidery Shirt carries within its stitches a living art form — the ancient Bengali practice of kantha, where needle and thread are used to create intricate surface embroidery across handwoven cloth. This is not decoration applied to fabric; this is storytelling woven into every seam.

A rare and collectible piece for the discerning Australian wardrobe, the Kantha Embroidery Shirt is equally at home at a gallery opening in Brisbane or a long lunch in the Barossa — a shirt that invites conversation without demanding it.

Crafted to Your Exact Measurements

Each Sūt piece is made-to-order and tailored to your individual measurements. No standard sizing. Your body, your garment.

About This Piece

Kantha is a centuries-old embroidery tradition native to West Bengal and Bangladesh, traditionally created by women artisans using running stitches across layers of cloth. Each Sūt kantha shirt is individually embroidered by hand at the Anuprerna cooperative — no two are precisely alike.

  • Hand-embroidered kantha detailing — unique to each individual garment
  • Handwoven base fabric — pure cotton or choice of premium alternatives
  • Azo-free dyed; GOTS-aligned production process
  • Available across 8 premium fabric choices
  • Made-to-measure in your exact dimensions — no standard sizing
  • Production: 14–21 business days (embroidery adds additional craft time)

How to Measure

For the most accurate fit, have a tailor or trusted person take your measurements using a soft tape measure.

  • Chest — Measure around the fullest part of your chest, keeping the tape horizontal.
  • Shoulder — Measure from the tip of one shoulder to the tip of the other, across the back.
  • Sleeve Length — Measure from the shoulder tip to the wrist bone with arm slightly bent.
  • Back Length — Measure from the nape of your neck to where you'd like the garment to end.
  • Waist — Measure around your natural waistline.
  • Hip — Measure around the fullest part of your hips.
  • Neck — Measure around the base of your neck.
  • Wrist — Measure around your wrist just below the wrist bone.

All Sūt garments are produced with a 1–2 cm tolerance. If you are between measurements, we recommend sizing up.

Care Instructions

Hand wash separately in cool water with a very mild detergent. Do not scrub embroidery. Rinse gently and press flat on a towel to remove excess moisture. Lay flat to dry in the shade — do not tumble dry. Iron on the reverse side only, on low heat. The kantha embroidery is hand-applied and should be treated with corresponding care.
