The fabric library

Handspun Khadi

Cotton hand-spun on a charkha and handwoven in India. Soft, breathable, alive with the gentle slubs of human-spun yarn. Two artisans — a spinner and a weaver — earn from every length you wear.
Care: Cold hand-wash, line-dry in shade, warm iron. Softens with every wash.

Organic Khadi

The same hand-spun, handwoven process — woven with organic cotton grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers. Cleaner-feeling, equally breathable, kinder to soil and to the farmers who grow it.
Care: Cold hand-wash, line-dry, warm iron.

Matka Peace Silk

An ahimsa (non-violent) silk from West Bengal. Mulberry silkworms are allowed to emerge from the cocoon naturally before the short, broken fibres are hand-spun, leaving the natural sericin gum intact. A grounded, textured silk — closer in hand to fine linen than to satin.
Care: Dry-clean preferred, or cool hand-wash, no wringing. Cool iron on the reverse.

Mulberry Silk

The benchmark silk, spun from silkworms fed exclusively on mulberry leaves. Long, uniform filaments give it the deep lustre, fluid drape, and quiet strength silk is celebrated for.
Care: Dry-clean. Avoid direct sun. Press cool on the reverse.

Linen

Woven from the flax plant — one of the oldest textiles humans have made. Cool, crisp, breathable. Wrinkles with intention. Sheds heat in summer and insulates lightly when the air turns.
Care: Cool machine or hand-wash, line-dry. Iron damp for a sharp finish, or wear the rumples — both are correct.

Merino Wool

From merino sheep, prized for the fineness of their fleece. Light enough for next-to-skin wear, naturally temperature-regulating, odour-resistant, and wrinkle-shy.
Care: Cold hand-wash with wool detergent or dry-clean. Lay flat to dry. Steam to refresh between wears.

Tussar Silk

A wild silk, spun from silkworms feeding on forest trees rather than mulberry. Coarser and more textured than mulberry, with a natural honey-gold colour and a soft, uneven sheen — irregularities are a feature, not a flaw.
Care: Dry-clean preferred. Cool iron on the reverse.

Ketia Peace Silk

A rare handwoven cloth indigenous to Bengal. Made from the broken, leftover fibres of Tussar cocoons that have hatched naturally — often woven alongside Matka, Khadi, or Tussar yarns. Deeply textured, substantial, zero-waste by design.
Care: Dry-clean or cool hand-wash. Press cool on the reverse.

Tussar-Muga Silk Blend

A handwoven blend of two wild Indian silks — Tussar from forest silkworms in eastern India, and Muga, the famed golden silk produced exclusively in Assam under Geographical Indication. The Muga in this cloth is genuine; the blend makes it accessible outside Assam, where pure Muga is rarely available for export. Textured body, warm golden lustre that deepens with age.
Care: Dry-clean preferred, or cool hand-wash. Iron on the reverse with a pressing cloth.

Eri Silk

Peace silk from the Samia ricini moth of Northeast India, sometimes called "the fabric of peace." Warm like wool, breathable like cotton, with a soft matte hand. Spun, never reeled — every cocoon yields only after the moth has flown.
Care: Cool hand-wash, lay flat to dry, warm iron on the reverse.

A note on cost

The kit is A$35 and ships within Australia. It is a standalone purchase — the cost is not credited against your made-to-measure order. What you're paying for is time with the cloth: the chance to feel, in your own hands, the difference between a hand-spun khadi and a wild Tussar before you commission a garment you'll wear for years.
